Affiliate Marketing is one of the first few options you bump into when you research for ways of making money on the internet. And it seems to be very simple. You end up thinking this:
- There is less or no investment.
- Just talk/write a bit about any product.
- Need not use the product to sell it.
- No need to bother about the customer service or troubleshooting once sold.
- Make lots of money instantly.
Well, unfortunately it isn’t so. Effective Affiliate marketing is not as simple and straight as it sounds. It is much… much more beyond your first thoughts about it. I believe that it is an art in itself.
My intention is not to intimidate you, nor do I say that affiliate marketing is not lucrative. It is provided you go by the laws of the business that can help you get success in affiliate marketing. But before that you need to ensure that you do not commit certain mistakes which almost every naive affiliate marketer does.
Many affiliate marketers fail to make it big and quit early as they end up doing one or more of these things:
Choosing the wrong product:
Many a times you tend to affiliate a product which may not have relevance to your niche of expertise, just because you like it yourself.
Whom would you consult before buying a Smartphone?
A trusted insurance agent ?
Or a tech savvy friend who develops smart-phone apps ?
Getting into too many programs:
While it is to some extent advisable to create multiple income streams, one must bear this proverb in mind before signing up for too many programs –
Jack of all trades, master of none.
Choose a couple of programs you think are good for you. Don’t get into every program you pass by. Try giving your best to the few you choose.
Not using the product:
A big misconception in affiliate marketing is that the promoter need not use the product. Only on using the product yourself will you know how good or bad it is. What are its plus points you can bank on and what are its drawbacks. Knowing all of this, to a large extent influences how to promote the product or even whether or not to market it.
Not having the intention to help:
Your prime motto as an affiliate marketer must be to help the buyer buy something that would really be of value to him, but not to just sell a product that would fetch you the most. Anything done with selflessness and with care for the buyer would ultimately shoot up your credibility as a product advisor. Better your credibility, better are the chances of your leads being converted to sales.
With the increase in the number of players in the affiliate marketing industry, almost all internet users would have faced product promoters who seem quite pushy. Hence the web users are no more likely to fall for affiliate links, banners or product reviews that clearly seem to persuade them to buy something. Rather the affiliate links must be hidden in between posts that seem to help the readers or answer their concerns. The tactic of hiding affiliate links must be mastered.
