Ways to Promote a Blog Post After Publishing It

how to Promote a Post

Researching a topic, then preparing a proper layout and writing a killer article – the perfect process to build a thriving readership for your blog.

Most of the bloggers think that it is enough to write quality content and once the post gets indexed in search engines you will get huge traffic flow. But the truth is completely different. Your so-called quality post might take a long time in getting indexed in search engines and even if it gets indexed it might not be able to register a spot in the first two pages of search results.

And thus your quality post might not attract the traffic you had expected. So what should you do to get the results. After researching and writing a killer article, you need to promote it hard to give it the initial boost of traffic and when search engines will see the post all around the web, it might get indexed fast and can rank well in SERPs.

So how should you promote your post ? I will help you with that. I have tried many methods to promote my published posts but only some gave results, but that results were quite good. So here are some of the best ways to promote a post after hitting the publish button.

The Best Ways to Promote a Post :

The First Step.

  • Become a Guest Blogger.

Whenever I sit down to come up with blog post ideas, I try to come up with ideas where I can expand it more. It’s like you think of one post which in turn can give you 2-3 more post ideas. Keep the best post idea for your own blog and write a detailed post on your blog. After it is published, its now time to start working on the 2-3 ideas you got. Prepare at least 2 more posts and submit it as a guest post on top blogs of your niche. Be sure to include a link to your published post with proper anchor text. Not only will this practice give you high authority backlinks but some loyal readers as well.

  •  Blog Commenting

Commenting on other blogs is a great way to build relationships with other bloggers in your niche and driving targeted traffic to your own blog. So start commenting on other blogs.

I prefer commenting on Commentluv enabled blogs because I get two links by commenting there. You can too do that. At this moment, don’t forget to leave a thoughtful comment relevant to the article. If you are commenting just to gain backlinks, your comment will get deleted. So always comment in a way that it triggers a conversation. And don’t forget to have the link pointing to your latest published article.

This step was for link-building. When Google sees that quality backlinks are coming up for a particular article, it will index it very fast and the chances are that your future articles will get indexed immediately once published. Link Building isn’t limited here – you can do article submissions, use web 2.0 properties etc. but that’s not quite necessary as the above two methods would be quite enough.

Another thing, don’t just rush for dofollow backlinks, you must have nofollow backlinks as well for your blog otherwise search engines will suspect that some unethical activities are going on and may ban your site. Not good na.

Second Step.

  • Use Blogging Communities.

There are many blogging community sites, where you can submit your post url and once it is approved and published, you will see visitors coming from these sites as well. I personally like Bizsugar very much as I get a lot of visitors compared to other such sites. Other sites worth trying include BlogEngage, Blokube, Serpd.com, Famousbloggers.net (Community News Section) etc.

  • Social Media Rocks.

Social Networking Sites are the best places to gain many visitors. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, StumbleUpon and others can give you hundreds of visitors. Facebook can give you the initial boost but Twitter can also work magic. Use sites like JustRetweet.com to get the most out of Twitter. Google+, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Digg etc. can help you get indexed and ranked easily. In fact, StumbleUpon and Reddit are the traffic sources that can give you a hundred hits within moments but that traffic is not worth it. You can read why they are best traffic sources but not worth it.

  •  Content Curation Sites

Start using Scoop.it and Paper.li to get another boost in promotion of your article. You can also contact the owner of the Scoop.it and Paper.li pages and submit your article there. Always remember the the quality of the content matters a lot here. I have not used it till now but heard a lot about it and it is worth trying.

The Third Step (Most Important One)

Actually there is no third step. Whatever I do on a regular basis after publishing the post are listed above. But people get successful when they apply their own personal strategy. Do you agree or not?

If you just copy what others are doing you won’t get long-lasting success. You will get the initial boost but only your personal strategies, the strategies that you have mastered will benefit you in the long run. So think of some great and the best way to promote a post, and start bringing more and more visitors.

Note: I didn’t mention anything regarding email list. I know that email list is one of the best traffic source, but what if you don’t have an email list at the moment. Once you have traffic, you can build your email list but before that you can apply the above steps.

Don’t forget to give your feedback to the post. What do you think are the best ways to promote a post, according to you?

  • Hi,
After publishing a post, the best way of promoting it is to take the help of social networking sites. Social media sites do help in increasing your interaction with your visitors and also helps to drive traffic to your site. Apart from this, guest posting and blog commenting are the best options so far and as you have suggested. Thanks for the share!!

  • Of course best way to promote a post is to share on social networks, but if you only share links people will irritate with that.

Create a discussion thread which create interest in readers mind or ask a question. If your post is about to promoting post after publishing you can ask “Is sharing your post on social networks are enough?” When people respond to thread share the link.

    Thanks

      That’s a cool idea.
I never have thought of it. I share my posts on my blog’s fanpage and in the groups where people won’t get irritated.
However thanks for the tip :)

  • Hi Arbaz,
I have gotten a lot of traffic from Stumble upon and Reddit. Sometimes I share my links on these sites but mostly my readers do it for me.

Also commenting is another great way to get traffic, sometimes long after the post was published.

    • Hi Justin,
StumbleUpon and Reddit do give traffic but it only increases your blog’s bounce rate.
I prefer blog commenting as it gives me backlinks and new readers too :)

  • For me, promoting the post in social media immediately after it goes live works great! Especially Facebook helps me drive a lot of traffic. Twitter is secondary.

For long term and high quality traffic – my go to strategy is guest blogging!

  • Being a Guest blogger is the best one to publicize a blog and it even earns a good fame to us. Blog commenting helps us build friendly conversations with the authors and thus we can publicize our site.

Arbaz, great topic for a blog post my friend. It’s interesting to read the comments and check out what others views are on this topic.

You have laid out some great steps to follow here. Personally, I use a couple of paid tools to help me distribute my content to the social media sites. “Work smarter not harder”. Right?

Like you I also engage other commentluv enabled blogs and forums. Always looking for more link juice.

    Thanks for sharing my friend.
